| Overview of Criminal Justice Research at RTI |
| RTI has conducted criminal justice research,
including violence and substance abuse research, since the 1970s. Research into the relationship between criminality and substance
use has been accompanied in recent years by studies focusing on mental illness and criminality. Research and evaluation methods
increasingly include interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches that enhance opportunities for learning.
RTI’s criminal justice researchers are conducting a wide range of studies addressing critical issues
related to delinquency and other criminal behaviors, the administration of justice and criminal justice system operations, and prevention and
treatment strategies and programs. Example projects presented on the next page demonstrate the breadth of the issues we address and
the relevance of our work to policy makers.
